![]() |
Church spoke with Martin Heade, a major artist of the time, about his trip to South America, and Heade decided to make a trip of his own. Heade decided that he would undertake a scientific study of South American hummingbirds and paint a series of paintings to illustrate his study. Although Heade completed fourteen paintings of hummingbirds, he never finished his treatise on them.
