The scholarship provides $500 per semester ($1,000 annually) to the recipient.
The award continues from semester to semester as long as the recepient makes
satisfactory progress toward the degree. Upon graduation, a search will begin
for a new recipient. The award is intended for undergraduate philosophy majors.
In the event that no undergraduate philosophy major is eligible, the pool
of candidates will be enlarged to include graduate philosophy majors and
in the event that no graduate philosophy major is eligible, to students
enrolled full-time in the College of
Arts and Sciences.
To be eligible the student must:
- be a philosophy major at the University of North Texas.
- maintain full-time enrollment at the university
unless he or she has fewer than twice the number of semester hours required
to be full time remaining in the program.
- have a minimum of 30 semester hours of coursework
at the University of North Texas and a minimum of nine semester hours in philosophy in
the department, six of which should be upper level.(*)
To apply the the student must:
- submit a letter about his or her philosophical
interests,
- provide a writing sample, for example, a term
paper from a philosophy class, and
- arrange for three letters of recommendation,
two of which must be from the UNT philosophy department.
